Day 1:

  • Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel.
  • Afternoon sightseeing tour of the city, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Stupa (also known as the Monkey Temple), and Boudhanath Stupa.
  • Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 2:

  • Early morning flight to Bhadrapur and transfer to Ilam, a beautiful hill station in eastern Nepal known for its tea gardens and stunning views of Mount Kanchenjunga.
  • Visit the Kanyam tea garden and factory to learn about the tea-making process and enjoy a cup of fresh tea.
  • Overnight in Ilam.

Day 3:

  • Drive to the charming town of Taplejung, the gateway to the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, one of the best places to see red pandas in the wild.
  • Visit the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project office to learn about the conservation efforts and rules for visiting the park.
  • Overnight in Taplejung.

Day 4-6:

  • Begin your trek into the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, accompanied by a local guide and porters.
  • Trek through lush forests, rhododendron and bamboo groves, and charming villages, with stunning views of the Himalayas.
  • Look out for red pandas and other wildlife such as Himalayan black bears, musk deer, and barking deer.
  • Camp overnight in designated areas inside the conservation area.

Day 7:

  • Reach the village of Ghunsa, a picturesque settlement at the foot of Mount Kanchenjunga, and the heart of the red panda habitat.
  • Spend the day exploring the village, meeting the friendly locals, and learning about their way of life.
  • Overnight in Ghunsa.

Day 8-10:

  • Continue your trek towards the Yalung Glacier, another prime red panda habitat, and a breathtaking natural wonder.
  • Enjoy stunning views of Mount Kanchenjunga and other peaks along the way.
  • Spend three days exploring the area, looking for red pandas, and enjoying the pristine natural beauty.
  • Camp overnight in designated areas inside the conservation area.

Day 11-12:

  • Trek back to Taplejung and drive back to Ilam, where you can relax and enjoy the tea gardens and beautiful scenery.
  • Overnight in Ilam.

Day 13:

  • Drive back to Bhadrapur and take a flight back to Kathmandu.
  • Spend the rest of the day at leisure, shopping for souvenirs, or exploring the city on your own.
  • Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 14:

  • Departure day. Transfer to the airport for your flight back home.

This itinerary is designed to give you the best chance of spotting red pandas in their natural habitat while also allowing you to experience the rich culture and natural beauty of eastern Nepal.
